The lefthander was Australia's leading scorer with 535 runs at an average of 48.63 during their run to a sixth World Cup title in India. "Selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign," Cricket Australia said in a statement on Tuesday. Emerging Western Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie has replaced Warner in the squad after making his ODI and T20 International debuts during the recent tour of South Africa. Just seven of Australia's World Cup-winning squad will play the T20s, while head coach Andrew McDonald will also skip the series, handing the reins to stand-in Andre Borovec.

Initially, Kohli was part of batting's "Fab Four" alongside England's Joe Root, Australia's Steve Smith and New Zealand's Kane Williamson. While others have faded somewhat recently, Kohli has been burning brightly, and pulling ahead of his peers. The elegant right-hander ended that drought in September last year and has been at his prolific best at the current World Cup, where he is the runaway top-scorer with 711 runs from 10 matches including three centuries. "And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake." Congratulations emperor," the bowling great wrote after Kohli's Mumbai masterclass.

Too nice? That's the New Zealand way, says Mitchell
  + stars: | 2023-11-17 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Former Australia all-rounder Simon O'Donnell slammed the Black Caps for their lack of competitive instinct but Mitchell, who scored a 119-ball 134 in New Zealand's response, said the approach would not change. "I think that's something we really pride ourselves on as Black Caps and as New Zealanders. "It's something that we're really proud of, so we'll just keep being Black Caps and doing what we're doing." New Zealand next travel to Bangladesh for a two-test series starting on Nov. 28 and Mitchell said the disappointment of their semi-final exit at the World Cup would not have any impact on their performance. "(After) the T20 World Cup final we played a couple of years ago, we had a T20 in India about 48 hours after that so we're used to it.

The venue, where India won their last 50-overs World Cup title, has hosted four day-night contests so far at this tournament with three of those being won by the team batting first. Australia were the only team to win batting second at the ground after Glenn Maxwell hit an unbeaten double hundred. For Wednesday's contest, both India and New Zealand were unchanged from their previous match. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said he would have batted first as well.

MUMBAI, Oct 24 (Reuters) - South Africa opener Quinton de Kock smashed 174, the highest individual score at this year's World Cup, to propel his team to an imposing 382-5 against Bangladesh on Tuesday. Aiden Markram, leading South Africa in the absence of the unwell Temba Bavuma, made 60 after winning the toss and electing to bat at the Wankhede Stadium. Heinrich Klaasen provided the late surge with an explosive 90 off 49 balls to leave Bangladesh with a mountain to climb when they begin their chase. De Kock, Klaasen and David Miller, who made 34 not out, smashed a combined 19 sixes in the match. South Africa sit third, behind India and New Zealand, in the points table with the top four at the end of the group stage making the semi-finals.

Trott said it was a brave decision to bat first but admitted they were well short on a "350-360 wicket". Trott said his players would have benefited from having the match at the same venue where they play defending champions England on Sunday. Afghanistan are playing at their third World Cup and have now lost 16 of their 17 matches, their only victory coming against Scotland in 2015. "Azmat played really well, stepping up to number five and showing the talent and the pedigree that he's got as an all-rounder," Trott said. "So those are the things we're looking to get right going forward and get ready for England."

India flaunt bench strength with ODI series win in Windies
  + stars: | 2023-08-02 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
India entered the three-match series with their eyes on the bigger picture, which includes the Asia Cup and the home World Cup in October-November. It did not really matter at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad where India racked up 351-5 after being put into bat. They then returned to bundle out West Indies for 151 in 35.3 overs with only Alick Athanaze (32) and Gudakesh Motie, who made 39 not out, offering some resistance. After Mukesh Kumar (3-30) wrecked the West Indies top order, Shardul Thakur (4-37) hollowed out the bottom half as India registered their 13th consecutive ODI series win against West Indies. West Indies captain Shai Hope said the target was not beyond their reach but they lacked consistency.

Australia keep faith in expensive Starc's wicket-taking ability

McDonald said Starc was not the only bowler who went for runs against India and that the 33-year-old lent much balance to their pace attack. "Mitch went at a bit more than he generally goes at, but they complement each other really, really well. Cummins also threw his weight behind Starc, tipping him to play a key role in the five-test series in England. "He did a role for us that we know Starcy can do after 80 test matches," Cummins said after Sunday's win against India.
